This article illustrates the versatility of prospective planning as a tool for creating academic units within universities. It is derived from a project entitled Basis of the National Police Education Faculty, which worked with stages 1 and 3 of that methodology. Phase 1 - Analysis of the Current Situation involved defining the unit of analysis, detecting factors of change and revising the contextual framework. Stage 3 – Proposal for a Future Scenario implied defining the fundamentals, guidelines and organizational characteristics of the unit.
The need to design a Professional and Specialized Training Unit in the Education Division (DINAE) of the National Police was identified. This process allowed for a review of national and international teacher training units and, consequently, the design of a scenario comprised of pedagogic, curricular and organizational elements in keeping with the guidelines of the Police.
