Intercultural Encounter as an Event: A Proposal for the Theoretical Development of Intercultural Education

An approach to intercultural education as education in and for diversity is presented in this article. A definition of intercultural encounter as an "event," inspired by the philosophy of Jacques Derrida, is proposed. Intercultural encounter is shown to be ethically binding worldwide, with intercultural encounter recommended as a key concept in the debate on intercultural education.Downloads
