Abstract

The article suggests the contemporary school in its diverse contexts be regarded on the basis of teachers’ work. This option is supported by studies and research done in recent years on the conditions, social implications and prospects for the teacher’s work in a social context marked by capitalist relations that eventually make it precarious or unstable by increasing and imposing conditions on performance. The prospects derived from this analysis are grouped into a system known as education management; that is, recovery of the importance of teaching by working teachers who give classes and, in those classes, produce knowledge in conjunction with their students. Rescaling this description of the teacher’s work creates possibilities for the school to rediscover its social function.
