Keywords:
Higher education, university extension, Latin America, universities, ColombiaAbstract
This article looks at the development of university extension in Latin America and describes the progress achieved in Colombian universities. In doing so, it offers a documentary review supported by secondary sources, particularly articles on the findings of research that examines scientific databases and institutional documents. Several concepts and models are identified, as are specific experiences in the development of university extension and prospects for its reinforcement. The article concludes by underscoring the validity of the topic and its importance, given the fundamental role of university extension in responding to a careful interpretation of needs in the environment, projecting the knowledge universities possess, and offering solutions to the specific problems of the Latin American countries in a two-way interaction that enriches both the university and society at large.
