Abstract

The essential aspects of doctoral training applied to the Colombian context from a global perspective are examined in this article. The analysis is based on prevailing national legislation, references from experts on the topic, and the experience acquired through doctoral programs in the Caribbean region of Colombia. One issue of particular importance among those addressed is that the doctoral training process implies acquiring the skills, ethical basis and knowledge necessary to effectively develop scientific research evidenced in a rigorous and relevant doctoral thesis of excellent quality. Doing so involves establishing an epistemological and methodological basis for the topic under consideration, developing a good capacity for analysis, articulating scientific and academic networks, and demonstrating a certain skill for scientific writing and the search for empirical information in specialized databases
