The matter of method in social pedagogy

Abstract

Since the second half of the XIX century, Social Pedagogy has not been free from diverse discussions and methodological perspectives which have been proposed so as to better understand the raison d’être of this science. I shall try to indicate what, from my point of view, is the most appropriate method which should be taken into account in developing this science. Then I shall describe the different existing paradigms in research in education and offer a comparative analysis of them. The proposal which is made here is centered on the idea that, together with the analytical method -which is suitable for the paradigms described- the synthetic method illuminates the data gathered through analysis.
