Abstract

The epistemological concepts held by teachers are explored as being one of the factors associated with the teaching-learning process, particularly with respect to instruction in research. The focus of the analysis is on modern and postmodern science. The modern concepts pertain to traditional teaching based on positivism; the postmodern concepts, to constructivist orientations. It is essential that instruction in research be consistent with the new teaching-learning models and with actual needs in terms of the production of knowledge. The idea is to make it possible to train the kinds of researchers and users of research that are required in today's society.
