Keywords:
Academic discourse, abstracts, scientific journals, educational research, rhetoric, scientific articles, textual genres, research designAbstract
The article exposes the structure of abstracts of published scientific articles, based ona line of research into academic discourse on education; specifically, with relevant textualgenres in this area.
The primary objective is to analyze the internal structure of 194 abstracts of articlespublished in a Venezuelan journal dedicated to education. This was accomplishedthrough micro-sociolinguistic analytical procedures, taking into account evident rhetoricalmovements, such as Introduction (I), Method (M), Results (R) and Conclusions /Recommendations (C).
The outcome of the study, in terms of the structuring of abstracts, suggests a disciplinarycomponent for these texts, one akin to historical- philosophical traditions andremoved from the post-positivist traditions of the social sciences and the humanities.
