This text aims to highlight the relevance of using audiovisual materials from series and films to explain different communication theories to undergraduate Communication students. The research framework is grounded in recent changes in undergraduate education, the need for innovation, and the learning styles of Generation Z (centennials). The methodology is quantitative, involving the design of an eight-item Likert-scale instrument administered to a population of 88 participants. No sampling was conducted, as all students enrolled in the Communication Theories course during the August–December academic terms from 2020 to 2024 were surveyed. The results indicate that students perceive audiovisual materials as helpful for understanding the core principles of communication theories, making classes more dynamic, and fostering more critical thinking by exposing them to perspectives they were sometimes previously unfamiliar with. In conclusion, this pedagogical approach promotes greater interaction with students, as theoretical sessions are complemented by audiovisual materials and reflective discussions. This technique can be replicated in similar courses and not only in programs focused on artistic or creative fields—if instructors have prior knowledge of the audiovisual content.
